Our Ethos

Our Ethos and Values

At Aspire our ethos is to develop the individual, build resilience and independence leading to a confident young mind.

We Aspire to be a community founded upon mutual trust where everyone is loved for who they are. We seek to care about others by putting their needs before our own and believe that by working together we can create a better community for all whilst developing personal strength.

As an Alternative Provision Academy, our core values are having a fully inclusive community empathy and courage:

  • We aim to be an inclusive community. Each person is needed, valued and important. When things go wrong we will forgive each other and make a fresh start. We will share what we have with those in need and try to treat others as we would like them to treat us.
  • Courage is a trait that needs to be developed in everyone. Life throws many challenges at us and we need to be prepared to face those challenges through developing deep personal reserves. We believe that developing individual strength and conviction enables students for the rest of their lives;
  • Empathy is essential to human life and lies at the heart of all successful relationships. Empathy is an unspoken language that we aim to teach and develop in others. In this way we develop self-awareness and depth of human engagement.

Our Principles

Our curriculum intends to meet the varied and individual needs of all of our students.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that enables students to engage and re-engage with learning whilst studying traditional National Curriculum subjects at Key Stage 3 and a range of GCSEs and Vocational qualifications at Key Stage 4.

We believe that students have an educational entitlement, regardless of previous performance. It is our mission to develop curriculum success for all. Through modified learning approaches and intense learning packages, we aim to bring students’ learning back on track, to accelerate progress and close the gap for those demonstrating regression from KS2. Furthermore we aim for those students who arrive with an uncertain future to have the qualifications, skills and personal attributes to be successful post 16, whether in work or further education.

Our curriculum is highly flexible and tailored to individual need and may change over time. We look for every opportunity to be innovative and maintain a 21st century offer to students.

If parents have any questions or concerns about our curriculum, or simply would like elements of it explaining, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the academy.

Our History

Students who struggle academically, with attendance, with behavioural or emotional issues do so for any number of reasons and contributing factors. However, they are still children with much to offer their local, national and global communities. By simply accepting that they have nothing to offer and ‘can’t be educated’, we are accepting children cannot positively contribute or impact on anything or anyone around them. This, we strongly believe, is simply not the case. By removing them from the education system, society is giving them no chance to change, develop or up-skill in areas that will change not only their life chances and future, but that of those around them.

ASPIRE was born out of ideas surrounding the concept of how to offer more vulnerable students in the city the opportunities provided by the mainstream but in different ways. As its own school, with AP (Alternative Provision) status, there is greater flexibility with the curriculum and opportunities for engagement.

There is a need in Hull and the surrounding areas for providers and schools who can take large numbers of vulnerable and challenging students, whilst providing high quality education, life skills, opportunities to develop resilience and skills for post-16 positive outcomes. ASPIRE aims for students to become valuable, contributing members of their local, national and global communities; changing the perceptions society has of our young people. Our students are students that positively contribute towards their own lives and futures; and the lives and futures of others.
