In May, Animals UK visited the academy to work with a number of Year 9 and Year 11 students, as well as those in the Animal Care group. Having hands-on access to a variety of quirky creatures, the students treated the animals with care and respect, despite the smells, the slithers and slime!

The academy bought some eggs from Haven Farm in Hedon to enable the Animal Care group to experience the incubating, hatching and rearing processes.

Aspire Academy has continued to support the community of Hull in this very difficult year. Staff and students made a huge collection of groceries and toiletries to donate to a Hull foodbank operated by The Trussell Trust. This organisation helps those in need of emergency food in times of crisis.

At the end of term, staff and students added some festive fun to the learning experience. Sporting Christmas jumpers (and contributing £1 each), they worked in tutor group teams to create origami Christmas stars, construct and decorate gingerbread houses and create high quality Christmas cards.

Shelly, Aspire’s Chaplain, wished staff and students in the Academy a Merry Christmas by presenting each of them with a traditional gift, a CHRISTINGLE. A Christingle symbolises Christ as the light of the world.

In Enrichment lessons over several Friday afternoons, students in the Animal Care group designed and created a variety of animal themed products to sell within the Academy. Keyrings, snow globes, charm bracelets, picture frames and animal teddies were just some of the fab initiatives.
